Beloved and I are just back from our favourite restaurant ever - Sushi House in Morden.
We had a long, tiring and complicated day that started with taking Mother to the airport, followed by having to find a launderette to wash the duvet because Thomas *couldn't* wait (there was a lot of traffic in the bathroom this morning), looking at carpets/rugs and ending up in Ikea (we have a new, beautiful rug in the living room now).
So Beloved said - neither of us is going to cook tonight, let's go for sushi...:)
The food was fantastic (it always is there), and I feel reconciled with the world.:)
Also, Beloved is the best. *g*

Date: 2009-05-18 12:53 pm (UTC)Malcolm was firmly anti-sushi due to a previous bad experience, but took me the Sushi House to humour me (and it was our first meal out as a couple too...).
One bite and he was converted............!
I have had sushi in many, many restaurants (and cities/countries), although not in Japan. It is the best sushi I have ever had, freshly prepared by a proper sushi chef, and the entire experience is somewhat mystical. Am not kidding either.:)
We have a routine all worked out from the moment the sushi platter appears on the table, Malcolm daintily picking up the morsels with the chopsticks (because he can, and because he's a show off...), me picking up things with my fingers (because, well, I *can't* do chopsticks, and a fork doesn't work all that well), very likely looking like an uncouth peasant to the sushi chef, both savouring each bite religiously, until we get to eat the eel one (which has been saved for last, because it is the best one) and we both experience Nirvana.
Yes, it really *is* that good.........:)
We were saying last night that you and Manolo have GOT to try it when you are next in the UK.:)
The decorating is on hold at the moment, because we are having Mother and a friend from Miami visiting. Malcolm bought ne the supplies I needed to paint the bathroom, so I might start sometime next week anyway. I am getting restless, and I want things finished NOW.:)

But my dear husband is so anti-sushi it borders on phobia so I'm afraid nirvana will have to wait for a visit when I'm there alone.
:(
So Malcolm is a show-off?
;)
I can't use chop sticks either so we can be uncouth peasants together.
:D
Painting...I have SO much of that to do also.

Date: 2009-05-18 01:16 pm (UTC)Before meeting Malcolm I had completely given up on romantic expectations. I didn't want to settle for what would have been companionship at best rather than spending the rest of my life on my own.
I was happy to do just that, happy to be the Strange Woman with camera(s) and too many cats.
The last 'romantic' relationship was ended (by me) when I realised I had no intention of being J's mother, especially given that I was very fond of him, but certainly not madly in love.
When I met Malcolm I had no hidden agenda - I was thrilled to have a friend that was not only into birdwatching but also into anything else that flies like I was...:) Things progressed slowly over a period of months, when it became rather obvious that my 'friend' meant quite a lot to me, and that I wasn't prepared to let him slip away.
What I am trying to say (and not doing a great job of it either) is that what is meant for you won't pass by you, like a friend of mine used to say. You are a wonderful, funny and interesting woman - the likely scenario is that you'll have to beat the suitors off with a stick in order to have some peace. :)
